Manufacturer's Description
Style, Simplicity, and Performance; The DSC-W50 combines a sleek metal body and compact design with new high-tech features for image quality and operating convenience. The super-sharp 6.0 megapixel resolution delivers more detail when you're cropping or making big prints. Carl Zeiss 3x optical zoom lens and High Sensitivity Mode (ISO 1000) combine to produce sharper images even in low-light conditions. In addition, Sony's original Clear RAW NR processing circuitry minimises the colour noise distortion of high-sensitivity shooting.

A Screen that Shows More; The extra-large 2.5 inch LCD screen of the DSC-W50, not only gives you a big, bright image for setting up shots and checking results, but also displays a convenient camera Function Guide, with text and icons for easy-to-operate features like colour and brightness adjustments, image size, flash and self-timer modes, focusing modes and much more to make your photographic experience a blast! The DSC-W-50 even provides an eye-level viewfinder for traditional shooting.

Everything You Need for Great Results;Despite its compact size, the DSC-W50 incorporates the shooting features that every avid digital photographer needs - 32 MB Internal Memory for capturing images in-camera without a flash memory card, built-in slot for optional Memory Stick and Memory Stick PRO Duo media and Stamina Lithium Ion battery with enough power to capture up to 390 shots.

6.0-Megapixel Super HAD CCD;Higher megapixels gives you more detail, clarity and definition for making large prints and cropping in on your subject. Sony's advanced Super HAD (Hole Accumulated Diode) CCD design allows more light to pass to each pixel, increasing sensitivity and reducing noise.

Extra-Large 2.5 Inch LCD Screen; The DSC-W50 has a bigger and brighter 2.5 inch LCD screen for setting up and viewing images with a one-touch "Play" button that makes it quick and easy to view your photos.

Simple Controls with Function Guide;User-friendly controls and simple on-screen Function Guides with text/icon display, helps you to set up camera functions for terrific shots. This means that you'll also have greater creative freedom to adjust colour mode (including "Natural" for subtle colours and "Rich" for more intense colours), sensitivity, brightness, and image size.

High Sensitivity Mode;A new High Sensitivity Mode (ISO 1000) allows you to shoot with superb results in low-light conditions. Sony's original Clear RAW NR (Noise Reduction) image processing technology helps suppress the colour noise that can accompany high-senstivity shooting.

Carl Zeiss 3x Optical/2x Digital Zoom; The 3x optical zoom helps the DSC-W50 bring distant subjects closer and lets you frame shots for better composition. Sony's precision 2x digital zoom provides an additional 2x magnification to enlarge details without unsightly jagged edges.

Stamina Battery Power; With its powerful Lithium Ion rechargeable battery, the DSC-W50 can capture up to 390 images - enough to capture every single moment during your entire vacation! The compact BC-CSG battery charger is also supplied for battery recharging on the go.

13x Smart Zoom Feature At VGA resolution;Sony's Smart Zoom feature intelligently "crops into" the central portion of interest in your photo without sacrificing full CCD resolution and avoiding the image degradation of other digital zooms.

Capture Images In-Camera;With 32 MB of internal memory, the DSC-W50 allows you to shoot without a flash memory card, enabling you to then transfer your images to an optional Memory StickDuo media, upload to your computer, or make prints on your digital printer.

Memory Stick Duo Media; The DSC-W50 has a built-in slot for optional Memory StickDuo or higher-capacity Memory Stick PRO Duo media (the ultra-compact media for shooting, storing, and sharing your photo images.)

MPEG Movie VX Fine Mode; The DSC-W50 can capture VGA (640 x 480) audio-video clips at high frame rate (up to 30 frames per second), with the convenience of length being limited only by the capacity of your media.

Product Description;Sony's worldwide, outstanding reputation for creating unique, attractive, high-quality, advanced technology products, rests on a long line of innovations embraced by people from all walks of life. With a diverse product lineup serving a variety of lifestyles and industries, Sony continuously strives to introduce new products and technologies to meet changing market needs, so that you never have to let a memory fade away!

Stress Free (or is it ?)4
I bought this camera (ok, well maybe my parents did) last Tuesday, so its been a week since i've had it. It captures superb qualtiy photos, and has extra zoom in and control on the actual photos. In Movie mode, the camera works perfectly, only making you nervous when you let a breath escape your mouth!

But the downfall to this stylish camera is the battery length, or maybe my battery is dodgy? Who knows? Since i bought it last week, i've had to endure battery run-downs in a matter of 48 hours, and have had to re-charge it about 5-6 times already, excluding the charge-up which is required when the camera was brand new. Maybe i'll have to have it checked out, but i'd recomend this to anyone who's into digital photography and just starting out.

It would have been given 5 stars, but due to the case of the battery, it's a 4.

It's the size of a pack of fags... but much better for you!!5
What a great little camera. This is our second digital camera... our first was a Canon Powershot S45 which we have always been happy with... and will continue to be no doubt... but it's a little large compared to modern cameras, and we wanted something that would tuck away nicely in a pocket or handbag, but still deliver great quality... and this camera does it in spades!!
The best advice I can give anyone buying a digital camera is that the lens quality is the begin all and end all... without a decent lens, you can forget it. So that's why I went for the Sony... it has a Carl Zeiss lens... the pix we have taken so far are amazing, and we haven't even used the 6.0 megapixels setting too much yet!! (Mainly taking around 3.0mp so far.) We also bought an HP A618 photo-printer. This, combined with the Sony camera, is delivering us amazing printed pix... easily as good as 'lab' quality.
In conclusion... you will not be disappointed with this camera if you want compact size coupled with super quality.

Purchased the w50 about 5 weeks ago - this is my 2nd Sony camera my last one was a P9 which was good but slow on start up - the w50 is more compact, fast response when turning on, takes excellent pictures and has a massive viewing screen. What more can you asked for it is the dogs doodahs.
