Manufacturer's Description
Unlike many digital cameras, you won't want to separate this camera from its lens. Covering the crucial 28-300mm* range, and crafted from the highest standard Fujinon optics, this is a built-in lens that has been engineered to work perfectly with the camera's sensor technology. And the sensor technology is just as advanced a nine million effective pixel Super CCD and Real Photo Processor combination that not only delivers on detail, but also the major image quality milestones: colour, low noise, dynamic range and sensitivity.

Integrated Design; The S9500 Zoom's design allows you to do many things that you can't with a digital SLR. For instance, using the LCD to compose your image, rather than having to lift the camera to cover your eye. Using the zoom to reach virtually any of the major focal lengths, rather than having to change lenses and possibly see harmful dust enter the camera, not to mention missing the shot. Also, the mirror-free design allows you to enjoy the added functionality of a movie mode, which is something that SLRs cannot offer.

Super CCD With Real Photo Technology; This camera is about a lot more than just nine million pixels. Super CCD technology has long been associated with class-leading performance in top-end digital cameras. Unlike generic image sensors, this system is developed and manufactured entirely in-house, and is performance only available from Fujifilm. First-rate colour reproduction, image sharpness, low noise and excellent tonal response. Never mind the pixels. Feel the picture quality.

Fujinon 28mm 300mm Lens (35mm Equivalent);Unlike interchangeable lenses, this one's fixed to the camera for ever. And that is a good thing not only will the interior of the camera be protected from dust and the elements, but you also have an incredible zoom range at your disposal. Fujinon optics have an enviable reputation within the photography industry for their clarity and quality, and the lens on the S9500 Zoom lives up to the name. The 13 elements include one hybrid aspherical element, one glass moulded aspherical element, as well as ED glass. Furthermore, photography enthusiasts will like the manual twist barrel zoom control, as well as the manual focusing ring, both giving pinpoint control.

Tilting LCD Monitor;Your shooting freedom is enhanced by the tilting 1.8" LCD monitor on the back of the camera. No longer will you be required to use guesswork when shooting above your head or from ground level this LCD gives you the live image, so you can compose with ease. Given that you are not required to lift the camera to your eye, candid shots and street photography are also very easy.

Fast Responses;People that use S9500 Zooms will not miss many shots. There is no agonising wait as a motor extends the lens (it is already in position), and the autofocus locks on to subjects with a speed that will make you think twice as to whether this really is not a DSLR. With its use of manual zoom ring, dials and buttons for important functions, the S9500 Zoom is designed for photographers who do not want their camera to get in the way of their photography.

Movie Mode;Anyone who doesn't think that much of movie modes on digital cameras has not tried this one. Not only does it offer the top-level 30 fps VGA benchmark, but you can also use the zoom lens during recording, which is a special enhancement of this feature. With the massive onboard media storage, the S9500 Zoom offers extended movie potential, and is a valuable backup to the camera's still image capability.

Excellent5
Now take this for honesty. I graduated college with a qualification in photography, and while I would love for it to be a career, I am also happy for it to remain a hobby, and for this reason I needed a kit that could act like an SLR, for a fraction of the price.

I bought the Finepix S9500 in Gatwick airport whilst waiting for a flight last year. I was partially drunk, although I won't bore you with the details. The money I used to buy it was actually my deposit for a new house, nevertheless, I found this camera to be the best £0.00 I have ever spent. The camera allows you to use it as an SLR without all the fussing you would normally need to cope with. It's easy to carry around, easy to operate and achieve good shots, and it's also a beautiful kit (I can't stand ugly looking cameras).

The camera has never let me down. Since purchasing it I have done numerous photo shoots to a professional level, and have to say that it's hard to find a camera that can give the same standard. There are numerous add-on lenses for low prices, and so many possibilities for the adventurous photographer. I have a smaller Fujifilm camera for day to day use, but I now tend only to use the S9500, for the simplicity and standard it produces. I urge you to give it a go. You will not regret it.

I have had this camera now for nearly two years since it was first available in the UK, and upgraded from a 5600. I have had some stunning pictures out of it, and on a recent photoshoot in London I was struck yet again by how superbly it picks out colour and texture. The images are particularly resillient when being manipulated in photoshop, they retain their integrity even when sharpened and rebalanced. In that sense alone it is a great camera because of the flexibility you have to alter an original. My only reason for giving four stars rather than five is yes, the command dial, which has failed once but which I got fixed under warranty without any real problem. I would hope that Fuji have sorted this in more recent models. This is my third fuji in five years during which time I have taken over 8,000 pictures, and I really would recommend it to someone who wants near SLR performance without SLR hassle. Oh and the video is fantastic - I never use my camcorder these days, with a 4GB flash memory you can shoot an hour of high definition video with the S9500 and keep your pictures on the xd card in the other slot.

I STEPPED UP FROM THE S7000 A SUPERB LITTLE CAMERA.THE 9500 HAS DISAPPOINTED ME IN SLOW LOW LIGHT LOCKING AND A SOFT PICTURE IN AUTO.THE SOFT PICTURE IS EASY TO SHARPEN BUT THE LOW LIGHT LOCKING ANNOYS ME A BIT.LOOKING AT THE SPECS FOR THE 9600 THEY SEEM TO HAVE SEMI SORTED THE LOW LIGHT PROBLEM,AND INCREASED THE SCREEN SIZE WHICH THEY SHOULD HAVE DONE FOR THE 9500 INSTEAD OF RUSHING IT TO THE SHOP.DESPITE MY GRIPPING I LOVE THE CAMERA,THE MANUAL LENS IS A DREAM,THE TILTING LCD IS A JOY,GREAT FOR WAIST/DOWN LEVEL PHOTOGRAPHY ALSO OVERHEAD. FUJI'S SEEM ALL TO UNDEREXPOSE A TAD BUT THIS AT LEAST IS BETTER THAN OVEREXPOSED.PICASA2 IS A GOOGLE FREEBIE AND I USE IT FOR MOST OF MY EDITING.FOR THE LIGHTING USE THE AUTO LIGHT FIX IN TUNING,ALSO GREAT FOR CROPPING AND FILING.PICASA WILL TAKE CARE OF THE EDITING OF 90% OF PHOTOGRAPHERS WHO ARE INTIMADATED BY PHOTOSHOP,WHICH IS GREAT BUT VERY COMPLEX FOR THE AVERAGE SERIOUS PHOTOGRAPHER.WHEN YOU ADJUST THE LIGHT LEVELS IN THE FUJI 9500 'S SHOTS YOU WILL 9 TIMES OUT OF 10 SEE A BIG IMPROVEMENT.THE FUJI LENS IS VERY GOOD AND THE PIC JUST NEEDS THAT LITTLE TWEAK TO BRING OUT THE BEST.I LIKE TO PRINT MY PICS OUT LARGE AND AM VERY PICKY OVER LITTLE DETAIL DEFECTS WITH A LITTLE CARE AND EDITING THE S9500 DOES PRODUCE VERY GOOD PICTURES.AFTER THE S7000 LENS WE EXPECTED THE SAME ,BUT FORGET WE ARE DEALING WITH A MUCH BIGGER LENS.YOU CAN'T HANDHOLD THE 9500 AND EXPECT TO GET RAZOR SHARP PICS AT FULL ZOOM. CAN NOT BE DONE. GET A TRIPOD OR DO AS I DO LEAVE A MONOPOD SCREWED ON FULL TIME,IT FITS IN MY BACKPACK NO PROBLEM. COLOUR PROBLEMS.SET THE MENU TO CHROME FILM SETTINGS.

The duds are still out there2
I bought this camera as an upgrade from the S7000 and after much consideration and reading of reviews. I hoped I wouldn't get a faulty one and even ordered express delivery hoping the shipment process would be a bit more 'gentle'. Lo and behold, I got a 9MP camera that took grainy photos, on auto or with manual settings it made no difference. Unfortunate as I really wanted this camera to work. If it did it would have been a great one as many of the features others below have pointed out would have made life sweet(hence the 2 stars). I do wonder if the shipping process was to blame as the camera was not packaged very well, not by Fuji and not by Amazon. Having said that, my Fuji S7000 never was quite right either and several compact cameras could outperform it in anything but bright midday light. I'm moving on to Canon as this was such a waste of time ... hope others have better luck.
