I have had this camera now for nearly two years since it was first available in the UK, and upgraded from a 5600. I have had some stunning pictures out of it, and on a recent photoshoot in London I was struck yet again by how superbly it picks out colour and texture. The images are particularly resillient when being manipulated in photoshop, they retain their integrity even when sharpened and rebalanced. In that sense alone it is a great camera because of the flexibility you have to alter an original. My only reason for giving four stars rather than five is yes, the command dial, which has failed once but which I got fixed under warranty without any real problem. I would hope that Fuji have sorted this in more recent models. This is my third fuji in five years during which time I have taken over 8,000 pictures, and I really would recommend it to someone who wants near SLR performance without SLR hassle. Oh and the video is fantastic - I never use my camcorder these days, with a 4GB flash memory you can shoot an hour of high definition video with the S9500 and keep your pictures on the xd card in the other slot.
A1.ALLROUNDER
I STEPPED UP FROM THE S7000 A SUPERB LITTLE CAMERA.THE 9500 HAS DISAPPOINTED ME IN SLOW LOW LIGHT LOCKING AND A SOFT
PICTURE IN AUTO.THE SOFT PICTURE IS EASY TO SHARPEN BUT THE LOW LIGHT LOCKING ANNOYS ME A BIT.LOOKING AT THE SPECS FOR
THE 9600 THEY SEEM TO HAVE SEMI SORTED THE LOW LIGHT PROBLEM,AND INCREASED THE SCREEN SIZE WHICH THEY SHOULD HAVE DONE
FOR THE 9500 INSTEAD OF RUSHING IT TO THE SHOP.DESPITE MY GRIPPING I LOVE THE CAMERA,THE MANUAL LENS IS A DREAM,THE
TILTING LCD IS A JOY,GREAT FOR WAIST/DOWN LEVEL PHOTOGRAPHY ALSO OVERHEAD. FUJI'S SEEM ALL TO UNDEREXPOSE A TAD BUT THIS
AT LEAST IS BETTER THAN OVEREXPOSED.PICASA2 IS A GOOGLE FREEBIE AND I USE IT FOR MOST OF MY EDITING.FOR THE LIGHTING USE
THE AUTO LIGHT FIX IN TUNING,ALSO GREAT FOR CROPPING AND FILING.PICASA WILL TAKE CARE OF THE EDITING OF 90% OF
PHOTOGRAPHERS WHO ARE INTIMADATED BY PHOTOSHOP,WHICH IS GREAT BUT VERY COMPLEX FOR THE AVERAGE SERIOUS PHOTOGRAPHER.WHEN
YOU ADJUST THE LIGHT LEVELS IN THE FUJI 9500 'S SHOTS YOU WILL 9 TIMES OUT OF 10 SEE A BIG IMPROVEMENT.THE FUJI LENS IS
VERY GOOD AND THE PIC JUST NEEDS THAT LITTLE TWEAK TO BRING OUT THE BEST.I LIKE TO PRINT MY PICS OUT LARGE AND AM VERY
PICKY OVER LITTLE DETAIL DEFECTS WITH A LITTLE CARE AND EDITING THE S9500 DOES PRODUCE VERY GOOD PICTURES.AFTER THE S7000
LENS WE EXPECTED THE SAME ,BUT FORGET WE ARE DEALING WITH A MUCH BIGGER LENS.YOU CAN'T HANDHOLD THE 9500 AND EXPECT TO
GET RAZOR SHARP PICS AT FULL ZOOM. CAN NOT BE DONE. GET A TRIPOD OR DO AS I DO LEAVE A MONOPOD SCREWED ON FULL TIME,IT
FITS IN MY BACKPACK NO PROBLEM. COLOUR PROBLEMS.SET THE MENU TO CHROME FILM SETTINGS.
The duds are still out there
I bought this camera as an upgrade from the S7000 and after much consideration and reading of reviews. I hoped I wouldn't
get a faulty one and even ordered express delivery hoping the shipment process would be a bit more 'gentle'. Lo and
behold, I got a 9MP camera that took grainy photos, on auto or with manual settings it made no difference. Unfortunate as
I really wanted this camera to work. If it did it would have been a great one as many of the features others below have
pointed out would have made life sweet(hence the 2 stars). I do wonder if the shipping process was to blame as the camera
was not packaged very well, not by Fuji and not by Amazon. Having said that, my Fuji S7000 never was quite right either
and several compact cameras could outperform it in anything but bright midday light. I'm moving on to Canon as this was
such a waste of time ... hope others have better luck.
